If you follow what is written on the box, NAM is the first in the history of FPS, which in a realistic way will show players the real experiences of the Vietnam War. The program was created, among others, by a man responsible for the famous fashion "Marine Corpse" for Doom and, according to GT Interactive, it is enough for a complete recommendation. Released in 1998 by NAM, it is not an example of a professional approach to the matter, but an attempt to raise money on a topic that is patched and in addition uses archaic technical solutions. The game was created on the basis of Build engine, the same as used in Blood or Shadow Warrior, although the market has long focused on full 3D: Quake II from 1997 and published at the same time as NAM, Unreal.
NAM is the direct heir to the conversion of "Platoon" to Duke Nukem 3D game. After its publication, GT Interactive contacted the creators and offered them to create a fully commercial game, the theme of which was to be the war in Vietnam. The player plays the role of Alan "The Bear" Westmoreland, an American sergeant who, after the attack of Viet Congu, has to break through several large boards on his own and finally destroy the headquarters of the Vietnamese army. He had at his disposal several powerful means of extermination, equivalent to the equipment used in the sixties (M60 rifle, M79 grenade launcher, M16 rifle, flame thrower, plastic), and several accessories, such as traps, or a mine detector. If the situation becomes truly critical, you can always call for airborne support, which, after firing, covers the indicated area with a fountain of fire. Most of the levels are tree-poor jungles, starting points for the Vietnamese army and such facilities. The landscape is not too varied, and after some time the monotonous colours may become more and more pronounced.
The game offers a Multiplayer mode, where you can play on specially prepared maps, 8 people at the same time. In addition to the traditional deathmatch (here called "Gruntmatch"), there are two other forms of fun: Capture the Flag and the team game Fireteam.
