Mystery of the Ancients: Lockwood Manor is a casual horror story combining elements of the hidden object genre with solutions known from traditional adventure games. The project came from the hand of developers from the Mariaglorum studio.
The title Lockwood Manor is an infamous grim residence. According to rumours, in the 19th century, the basements of the building were the scene of vile rituals in which mad cultists evoked demons and tried to force them to obey. The campaign takes place in modern times and we play the role of a young man whose friends, Jennifer and her boyfriend John, disappeared in mysterious circumstances. Indications of circumstantial evidence left indicate that they may be staying at the Lockwood residence. Upon arriving at the place, it turns out that John has put his girlfriend in handcuffs and tries to perform a ritual. Before we manage to interrupt him, we are stunned and imprisoned in a cellar cell. After regaining consciousness, our task is to find a way to escape, save Jennifer and discover what is really happening in this building.
Mystery of the Ancients: Lockwood Manor is a genre hybrid that combines traditional adventure elements with casual hidden object challenges. The action is observed from the protagonist's eyes, and the game consists mainly in exploring the location and solving logical riddles. From time to time we are also thrown on separate screens, completely cluttered with different objects and we have to find among them those listed on a special list. For less experienced players, the authors have prepared an extensive system of hints, but veterans can disable it. In combination with an interesting story, Mystery of the Ancients: Lockwood Manor can appeal to a wide audience.
The game offers standard two-dimensional backgrounds enriched with animated elements. However, the production makes a good impression in terms of graphics, as all screens are eye catching and effectively help to create an atmosphere of uncertainty.
