Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics Description
Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics for PC, PS4 and PSV is a jRPG that is popular in Japan, where it was released in July 2015 on PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 under the title Fushigi no Chronicle: Furikaerimasen Katsu Madewa. It is based on the independent title One Way Heroics which is popular in Japan, to which it adds characters known from series like Danganronpa and Shiren the Wanderer. The title was produced and published by Spike Chunsoft.
Mechanics
The PC, PS4 and PSV version of Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics is a turn-based jRPG with roguelike features such as procedurally generated world. It means that the environment, traps, obstacles and treasures to collect are different on each level and unique.
What distinguishes the title developed by Spike Chunsoft from similar games is the so-called Shine Raid located on the left edge of the screen. With each move of the protagonist the wall of light moves in his direction and destroys everything on its path. This forces the player to plan his movements – he can play it safely and keep larger distance from the deadly wall or risk getting closer, for example in order to collect valuable items.
The player can select from more than 20 playable characters – both original ones and from the Danganronpa and Shiren the Wanderer series. Not all of them are available since the start – the player must collect points which then can be spent on buying new perks and character classes. Despite the fact that Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics has roguelike features, the death of the protagonist isn’t permanent. The equipment of the character can be kept between the playthroughs and stored in a special vault.
Game modes
The game offers a multiplayer mode in which one faces other players. In addition to that, the developers implemented the option to share a special game password on Twitter, allowing other players to unlock the world generated during the current playthrough.
Language version
Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics was at first released in Japan and thanks to that the original Japanese language version is available in the game. The PC, PS4 and PSV version contains a full English language version as well – the interface, sounds and subtitles were all translated.
