My Self-Defence Coach is another production designed for Kinect controller. This time experts from Ubisoft decided to help you take care of not only your health, but also your safety. Therefore, you can use your Xbox 360 to learn self-defense in your own house.
The developer and publisher of the game is Ubisoft company. They already have experience with games that aim to boost the player’s physical fitness, including, but not limited to such motion-controller-based games as My Fitness Coach Club, Just Dance 3, and Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. Whereas these titles put greater emphasis on increasing the overall condition of players, My Self-Defence Coach focuses mainly on teaching them self-defense techniques.
My Self-Defence Coach is probably the first professional production designed specifically for Kinect controller which aims to prepare the user to repel a street assault. To this end, creators prepared a lot of workouts that can improve the player’s fighting technique, increase strength, and enhance reflexes and composure. The main pillars of training are, among others, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, and serene Tai Chi sessions.
As in many similar titles, the player has to imitate certain moves displayed on the screen. The more precisely you do a specific move, the better score you get. Apart from typical self-defense training sessions, there are also many mini-games enriching gameplay.
Graphics is not much different from other similar Kinect games, such as Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. It mainly consists of character models of virtual trainers characterized by high precision of animation, and HUD elements that tell the player which move should he or she perform at the moment. In order to create the game, self-defense professionals were hired, e.g. Audrey Ronquillo, a black belt in karate and self-defense instructor.
