My Lovely Empress is the third installment in a series of horror strategy-simulation games originating from 2018. It was co-developed by GameChanger Studio and Neon Doctrine.
Plot
My Lovely Empress is set in a fantasy world inspired by Asian mythology, in the Crimson Empier. We play as Emperor Hong, grieving after the loss of his beloved wife. The ruler thus summons forth the Yaoguai, mighty soul-eating creatures from the north. It's up to us whether he'll use them to efficiently manage his empire or sacrifice his subjects to them, seeking to revive the dead empress.
Mechanics
The gameplay of My Lovely Empress consists of managing our empire. We must maintain balance between satisfying our people's needs and wants, and keeping our country stable and strong. We're not the only ruler in the land, and our deals with other rulers will often contradict our people's expectations.
Thankfully, the Yaoguai are there to help us. Each of these beings has unique traits we can use to achieve our goals. As we progress, we build relationships with them, turning them into even more powerful allies.
Once our empire grows mighty enough, there's one last choice to make - live alone, leading a prosperous nation, or let the Yaoguai wreak havoc across the realm to resurrect our beloved.
Technical aspects
My Lovely Empress retains the series' distinct art style inspired by Asian paintings.
