Muv-Luv Alternative Description
Muv-Luv Alternative is a classic visual novel adventure game set in an alternative version of the Earth in which since the 1970s mankind has been unsuccessfully fighting alien invaders using advanced technology and mechs. The production is a direct sequel to Muv-Luv Extra and Muv-Luv Unlimited, which were originally released together in Japan in 2003. The title was created by the Japanese studio âge and Koki Yoshimune, the scriptwriter best known for Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, which was released in 2001. Since its creation, the Muv-Luv series has received a number of comic and book spin-offs, as well as two anime series. What's more, thanks to its success in Japan, the series is also responsible for popularizing postapocalyptic and military themes among comic and anime authors. Hajime Isayama, the author of the Attack on Titan manga, took direct inspiration from the series. The English version of Muv-Luv Alternative was financed on Kickstarter.
Plot
Muv-Luv Alternative is a direct continuation of Muv-Luv Extra and Muv-Luv Unlimited - players should know both games to fully understand the plot of this game. The action of the title starts three years after the events presented in Muv-Luv Unlimited. Takeru Shirogane participates in a desperate United Nations operation codenamed Alternative IV. Its aim is to use an experimental weapon capable of destroying the cosmic invaders called BETA, with whom humanity has been waging an unsuccessful war for more than thirty years.
Unfortunately, the international operation is not completed due to political reasons and problems with the technology necessary for its success. Faced with this development, the UN finally decides on the alternative of completely abandoning the Earth and its inhabitants and sending a small group of colonists outside the Solar System. Takeru, together with his friends, is not one of the lucky ones who will set off on a long journey - he, along with other unlucky people, has to come to terms with certain death. At some point, however, he mysteriously goes back in time by three years. Armed with the knowledge of future events, he is given a second chance to fix his mistakes and make Alternative IV a success.
Mechanics
Like its predecessors, Muv-Luv Alternative remains a classic visual novel. The game is devoid of any additional arcade or logical elements. We have an impact on the plot by making choices in places determined by the developers. It is worth noting that the game has only one predetermined ending.
Technical aspects
All dialogues in the game have been dubbed by professional Japanese actors. Two-dimensional backgrounds and portraits of characters have been refreshed and adapted to work with contemporary resolutions and screens.
