Music Racer
A racing and music game hybrid in which soundtrack influences the length of the race and the speed with which we move around the track. Music Racer allows you to play alone or in multiplayer mode on a split screen.
developer: AbstractArt publisher: AbstractArt
Music Racer combines features of racing and music games. The game was developed by the independent studio AbstractArt.
Mechanics
In Music Racer we sit behind a wheel of one of more than twenty sports cars and we rush ahead on a dozen or so futuristic tracks illuminated by neon lights. The music gives the gameplay the right rhythm. What song will accompany us in a given race determines not only its length but also the speed with which we can move. While the console versions allow you to select songs from the built-in "library", the PC edition allows you to upload your own compositions in MP3, Ogg, Flac or Wav format, or to stream music from YouTube.
During the game, we have to avoid obstacles, as well as collect luminous cubes scattered on the road - the more we get, the more points we will get. The points can be used for optical (we can choose from a wide range of spoilers, bumpers or rims) or mechanical modifications to individual vehicles. Although the cars are not licensed, they are inspired by real machines, including manufacturers such as Lamborghini or Ferrari.
Game modes
In Music Racer, you can play alone or in multiplayer mode on a split screen.
Technical aspects
Music Racer has colorful graphics maintained in a neon retro style, evoking associations with the TRON movie. PC edition uses virtual reality sets, although it doesn't require them to work.
