Release Date: TBA
A prequel to the iconic Beyond Good & Evil, developed by Ubisoft's in-house studio led by Michel Ancel. The game takes players on a journey to a planetary system called System 3 – the center of intergalactic trade and the most wretched hive of piracy and illegal business. Players get at their disposal an enormous open world, comprising gigantic planets and moons; however, before exploring it, you have to create your own character.
In 2003, an action-adventure game titled Beyond Good & Evil was released. Although it was well-received by players and reviewers, it did not become a commercial hit. Years later, it received a refreshed version in the form of Beyond Good & Evil HD (2011), as well as another remaster titled Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition (released in 2024 to celebrate the 20th anniversary).
There were unofficial talks about the possibility of a sequel to the work overseen by Michel Ancel (the creator of the Rayman series) starting in 2005. Nevertheless, the official announcement had to wait another three years. Subsequently, the project got stuck in development limbo, so the next batch of specifics about it didn't come to light until 2017.
At that time, Beyond Good & Evil 2 was announced again, this time not as a sequel, but as a prequel. Its action was supposed to take place in a large, open planetary system called System 3, governed by the laws of physics and containing globes with real dimensions. The creators presented us with a vision of a production that allows for the free exploration of both space and the surfaces of planets inhabited by characters representing various cultural circles.
Although it seemed at the time that the discussed project was starting to get on track, Beyond Good & Evil 2 was still stuck in development hell, eventually surpassing even the infamous Duke Nukem Forever in terms of total development time.
