For an on rails, arcade shooter Mortal Blitz is fun and worth playing even if you have to wait for a sale to do so.
Digitally Downloaded: 3.5 / 5 by Matt Sainsbury
There might not be much depth here over the long term, but for some short bursts of frenetic action, it absolutely has the lightgun genre nailed.
Pure Playstation: 6.5 / 10 by Jeremy Peterson
Mortal Blitz VR has enough shortcomings to fill a virtual swimming pool, but the shooting and ducking for cover work so well--not to mention the lack of other quality PSVR shooters--that it nearly makes this a must buy.
Mortal Blitz Description
Mortal Blitz is a first person shooter dedicated to virtual reality sets developed by Korean Skonec Entertainment. The game was released for PS4 and PC and was inspired by arcade shooters from the 90s, such as the Time Crisis series.
Plot
Mortal Blitz takes us to near future, where Earth has fallen prey to a ruthless Dominium Teratomy’s Destruction Plan. The player assumes control of Yuhei – former FORCE soldiers whose mission is to defeat the invaders and thwart the evil plans of the enemy leaders.
Mechanics
The events seen in Mortal Blitz for PS4 and PC are seen from a first person perspective. The game was divided into missions that see us complete certain, prespecified objectives. As can be imagined, the game is full of combat sequences that see us eliminate numerous opponents using firearms and telekinesis that can be utilized to raise and manipulate various items found on the battlefield. We begin each stage with two pistols, with numerous weapons found in the game world, such as rifles, shotguns, or grenades.
We are left with a wide range of futuristic locations (such as an interior of a train or an industrial complex) that are infested by humans as well as aggressive, mutated beings. It should be mentioned that the player is unable to move on their own, and is limited to head movements, while motion controllers are used for aiming.
The game offers a tutorial in form of a shooting range that can be revisited in order to hone our weapon skill.
Technical Aspects
Mortal Blitz for PS4 and PC is characteristic for its high quality visuals – we are subjected to detailed environments and character models, as well as a wide range of special effects that accompany each firefight. As was mentioned earlier, the game requires virtual reality goggles and a motion controller.
