Moroi in an original way combines solutions specific to hack'n'slash with elements from a classic adventure game. The game was developed by an independent Swiss studio Violet Saint.
Plot
Moroi takes us on a journey to a dark universe full of black humour, where medieval aesthetics mixes with unusual, steampunk technology, and people exist alongside anthropomorphic animals and self-aware machines. The main character of the game wakes up in a huge castle, not remembering who he is or how he got there. In order to regain his freedom, he must defeat the mysterious Red King.
Mechanics
In Moroi the action was shown in top-down view. During the game we explore a huge fortress, talk to the inhabitants and complete various tasks. The characters we meet often ask the protagonist for various favours and supply them with specific items. One example is a certain meat grinder, for which the protagonist must obtain a limb of a certain prisoner.
An equally important role in the game is also played by combat. Clashes are extremely dynamic and bloody, and in the course of them we kill hordes of enemies, using cold weapons (then the game looks like a true hack'n'slash) or firearms (then the game turns into a serious shooter). In addition to cannon fodder, which dies here in mass quantities, powerful bosses stand in our way.
In addition, the game implements an extensive crafting system, allowing you to create a variety of weapons from scratch or improve the ones you already have. Each weapon consists of several parts (be it a sword or a revolving cannon), which can be freely combined with one another.
Technical aspects
Moroi runs on Unreal Engine 4 technology, and the graphics is kept in a grim and brutal style. Stop-motion animation was used in the game.
