Monster Strike is an iOS, AND and 3DS battle game with strategy and RPG elements. The game was developed by Mixi, a Japanese social networking site, in cooperation with Yoshiki Okamota - the creator of Games Republic and former co-worker of Konami and Capcom, who participated in the development of such games like Final Fight or Street Fighter II.
On mobile platforms, the game is available in a free-to-play model with a premium currency which allows to, e.g. to regenerate energy, replay failed missions, or breed unique species of monsters.
Mechanics
The mechanics of Monster Strike could be compared to Puzzle & Dragons released on mobile devices, as well as many other similar productions, in which players are supposed to fight waves of enemies with the help of characters acquired and developed during the game - in this case the titular monsters. What distinguishes Mixi's game from the competition is the fact that the gameplay is not only about matching the cards of the characters placed on the battlefield. The combat system in Monster Strike uses pinball mechanics - you attack enemies by "shooting" our monsters in such a way, that would allow them to hit walls and allies before hitting an enemy. This gives your monsters a number of additional bonuses, such as explosions, missiles, laser beams, etc.
Each of the controlled monsters is described with its own individual stats, such as the amount of HP, attack power or movement speed. During the game, you complete missions which give you experience - collect enough points and your monsters will increase their stats. It is also possible to perform various fusions and evolutions allowing your monsters to achieve much more powerful forms.
Game modes
Monster Strike, released on iOS, AND and 3DS, offers the opportunity to play in single player mode as well as in cooperation with up to 3 friends. There are also two types of tasks in the game: Normal and Quest. The former is part of the main campaign, while the latter is available only for a limited period of time - complete them to receive rare monsters.
