Monopoly Madness is an arcade game loosely based on the rules of board Monopoly; in practice, the game is much closer to crazy items like Overcooked. It was developed and published by Ubisoft, which takes care of the brand.

Plot

In Monopoly Madness the story layer does not play a particularly important role. Mr. Monopoly intends to go on vacation and is looking for a person to replace him for the duration of his vacation. So characters inspired by classic pawns throw themselves into a race, in which the prize will be to temporarily take his place.

Mechanics

In Monopoly Madness, the action is observed from a top-down view. After choosing one of the colorful characters, there is nothing left for us to do but throw ourselves into the action. Unlike the original, the game does not take place on game boards, but on maps inspired by them, such as Monopoly City, Beach or Golden Autumn. Moreover, the gameplay here takes place in real time.... and at a truly frenetic pace.

Over the course of successive rounds, we run around the locations, pulling in the money, water and electricity scattered around with special vacuum cleaners. We invest the accumulated funds in properties (when they become available for purchase), in turn, the resources we gain are used to improve them, which entails increasing their value. The player who boasts the most assets at the end wins.

While all this sounds easy and fun, things quickly get complicated. In order to get ahead of our competitors, we have to react instantly to what's happening on the screen; we're talking about the necessity of both quickly acquiring more properties and taking part in various random events (like floods or train crossings). In addition, sooner or later there comes a moment when everything is bought out. In such a case, in order to catch up with our opponents or increase our advantage over them, we have no choice but to use power-ups, which allow us, for example, to steal a random building with a flying saucer or demolish or raze a given property with a jackhammer or bulldozer.

Game modes

In Monopoly Madness a story mode is waiting to be tested, which consists of various challenges prepared for solo or cooperative play. Nonetheless, the most important element of the game is the competitive multiplayer mode, allowing to play over the Internet or on a shared screen.

Technical aspects

Monopoly Madness features colorful and clear graphics, which are made in a cartoonish style pleasant to the eye.
