An arcade 2.5D action game developed by Mexican studio Xibalba that tells the tale of highly-advanced insects. MilitAnt takes place in a fantasy world inspired by such movies as Ant Z and A Bug’s Life. However, the title was developed for older players. The main protagonist is an ant who protects its home from an invasion of merciless termites that attack the ant colony in search for precious crystals - an irreplaceable energy source.

MilitAnt for PS4, PSV and etc. is an arcade 2.5D action game which stars ants possessing advanced technology. The title was developed by independent studio Xibalba which also created sports/racing game Icebreakers in 2010. MilitAnt is the second project of the team and the first one released both on PC and consoles.

Plot

MilitAnt takes the players to a fantasy world inspired by such animated movies like A Bug’s Life and Ant Z. However, the tone of the game isn’t humoristic and it wasn’t created for younger audience. The main protagonist is an ant who protects its home from an invasion of merciless termites that attacks the anthill and colonies of other insects in search for valuable crystals that are irreplaceable energy source.

Mechanics

MilitAnt is a classic side-scrolling shooter with platform game features. It was inspired by the legendary Contra series. The developers created eight varied locations divided into more than a dozen of levels part of which ends with a boss fights that test your agility and reaction speed of the players. When facing more than thirty types of enemies, player uses fifteen different weapons such as shotguns and rocket launchers. What’s interesting, thanks to the many limbs of the protagonist he can use four different weapons at once. The weapons can be bought between the levels for crystals. The crystals are currency obtained by defeating bosses and completing challenges like completing a whole level without dying.

Technical aspects

The PS4, PSV and etc. version of the title has colorful graphics presented in 2.5D technology. The developers focused mostly on animations and design of the insects.
