Middle of Nowhere is a first person survival horror with classic gameplay mechanisms, created by independent VisionArts studio. As the father of a girl suffering from an umbrella, we find ourselves in a foggy land of her nightmares, where we have to find our daughter, fighting for survival with bloodthirsty monsters.
Middle of Nowhere is a classic survival horror in which we observe the events from the first person perspective (FPP). The title is a debut project of a small, independent studio VisionArts.
The main character of the game is Isaac, a widower who has only one thing left in his life: his daughter Emily. She is an unusual girl who suffers from an acute case of umbrellas. The disease makes a child experience nightmares in their dreams by visiting another world called Nowhere. One day Isaac finds a doctor who can help Emily, but he has a car accident on the way to him. In this way, he finds himself in the world of his daughter's dreams, and his goal is to find his child.
Nowhere in the title is a gloomy, post-apocalyptic world. In search of Emily, we come to explore locations such as dark caves, dense foggy wetlands or an abandoned town. The land of nightmare seems to be devoid of life, but it soon turns out that this is not the case at all. The player soon encounters monstrous inhabitants of this world, such as giant spiders or handless humanoids with big teeth protruding from his face. Creators focus primarily on the climate of terror and arousing fear, which is why we more often flee or hide from the threat than we fight against it. The use of weapons, for which we have very limited ammunition reserves, is the last resort here, and the enemies are tough and very dangerous. Despite the fact that in Middle of Nowhere we observe the events through the eyes of the protagonist, the developer compares his work to the Resident Evil series (especially its first releases) and Silent Hill.
The title was created on the Unity engine. It does not offer any graphical fireworks, but is able to show the dark world in which a flashlight scattered with light evokes fear in the player, disturbing what can be hidden in it. Keeping in suspense is also due to the audio layer of the production, which was supervised by people with experience in film sounding (with the head of VisionArts studio, Aaron Wilde, at the forefront). Middle of Nowhere is a production focused on telling a sad and mature story, so there is no multiplayer gameplay.
