Midair

Midair is an online FPS game developed by Archetype. The game is supposed to be a spiritual successor to games such as Starsiege Tribes, Tribes 2, and Legions: Overdrive.

Plot

The action of Midair is set in a distant future when humans have mastered interstellar travels and have colonized multiple planets. The game is mostly focused on the multiplayer experience, thus the plot does not play a significant role.

Mechanics

Midair is an FPS game allowing players to participate in online skirmishes involving two teams of soldiers equipped with jetpacks. There are three character classes diversified in terms of their armor – light, medium, and heavy. At the same time, players are free to choose the weapons and pieces of gear. The class selection affects character's mobility – this is crucial in Midair, as the gameplay is based on covering large distances within a short time. Skillful utilization of jetpacks and the awareness of the lay of the land allows players to use the so-called gliding technique. Becoming fully proficient with the mechanics is not easy, especially due to the fact that even the slightest direction corrections use the jetpack's energy.

Each team gets their own base with a generator powering all the useful devices (e.g. ammo replenishing, repair, and healing stations) and defense systems. The game also allows players to construct sentinel towers and sensors.

Midair features a matchmaking system that facilitates looking for other players that share a similar experience level. The developers have not forgotten about the possibility to create custom servers and inviting particular people or anyone that is willing to play.
