Metropolis 1998 Description
Metropolis 1998 is a city management economic strategy game developed by an American studio Yesbox.
Mechanics
Metropolis 1998 tasks us with managing a pixel art city. The player must organize traffic, take care of the economy, the people's needs and must properly balance their income and expenses.
The creators aimed to replicate the atmosphere of 1990s city builders while retaining modern gameplay improvements. Old-school visuals have been combined with realistic gameplay. The developers have prepared an advanced traffic simulation capable of tracking over 100,000 people/vehicles simultaneously.
The people are also extensively simulated, going to work, sleeping, resting, eating and performing other activities. Demand for goods is determing by adding up the needs of every individual citizen rather than dividing it into urban zones.
Players can also look inside each building, as well as switch between isometric and top-down camera.
Game modes
The game only supports singleplayer.
Technical aspects
The game's old-school visuals resemble 1990s city sims, such as SimCity 2000, SimCity 3000 and A-Train. The game features pixel art visuals and an isometric camera by default.
