Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is a first-person adventure game with elements of platform and logic game. It was developed by the small independent studio Ovid Works from Warsaw, founded by former CD Projekt RED employees. In 2017, the team has also released Interkosmos, a space simulator of astronaut's work in the 70s, designed for owners of VR goggles.

Plot

Metamorphosis is loosely based on a novel La metamorfosi by Franz Kafka, as well as other works by the author, including the most famous of them The Trial. The players take on the role of a man who for unexplained reasons was turned into a small insect. This happened at the least appropriate moment, as Joseph, a friend of the unfortunate main character, was arrested. Despite the absurd situation we have founf ourselves in, we set out in search of a way to return to our bodies. Only we are able to get our buddy out of trouble. During the adventure, we visit a bizarre and surreal world reminiscent of a nightmare.

Mechanics

The action in Metamorphosis is observed from the first-person perspective. The adventure is fully linear, and during the game, we have to go through a number of connected locations - levels, representing surreal worlds, often using and exposing the perspective of an insect from which we are exploring them. On the way to the protagonist's goal there are various puzzles, often forcing us to use elements of the environment. Thanks to the body of the insect we are able to climb vertical surfaces and get to hard to reach places. It is worth mentioning that during the game we will also meet many eccentric and colorful NPCs.

Technical aspects

Three-dimensional locations have been prepared with great attention to detail; their diversity and interesting desin deserve attention. The adventure is accompanied by a narration from the main character.
