Metal Slug Tactics is a turn-based strategy game focusing on battles between squads. The project is a side game in relation to SNK's arcade series and allows to command the characters known from the shooter installments of the brand.
Metal Slug Tactics is a tactical battle game with turn-based combat system. The project was developed by French Leikir Studio, whose credits include Isbarah and Wondershot. SNK and DotEmu helped with the development.
According to the title, the game is a spin-off of the classic cycle of arcade shooters. The new incarnation of the brand allows us to fight battles from an isometric perspective. During the game we control a squad consisting of characters well known to fans of the brand, such as Marco, Eri, Fio or Tarma.
Despite the change of genre and camera, the project retains the specific visual style of the best installments of the series. Additional attraction is the music whose author is Tee Lopes, the composer of soundtracks for such games as Sonic Mania, League of Legends or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge.

Metal Slug is a great fit as a turned-based strategy game, but overly luck-dependent roguelike elements and some outdated ideas for how to define enemies slow its march to war.

Metal Slug Tactics lives up to its stone-cold classic namesake from SNK’s golden era with its painstakingly detailed pixel art, head-bopping soundtrack, and snappy structure. It magnificently translates the run-n-gun series into its first turn-based tactics game, but doesn’t sacrifice substance for cheap nostalgia, either.

Your appreciation of Metal Slug Tactics is really going to hinge on how open you are to its genre change, and it being a rogue-like on top of that. Get over that hurdle and you’re in for a good time.

Fears about the cancellation of the Metal Slug Tactics project have not been confirmed. However, we will still have to wait a lot for the game.
