Megamagic: Wizards of the Neon Age Description
Megamagic: Wizards of the Neon Age for PC is an action game featuring RPG elements. It was inspired mainly by the 80s' and 90s' TV series for teenagers. Megamagic was created by BeautiFun Games - an independent Spanish team. The studio debuted in 2013, when Nihilumbra, an adventure-platformer game, was released.
Plot
Two centuries ago, a huge meteorite crashed on Earth, changing the direction humanity would further develop. Those who survived the cataclysm were forced to invent and develop magical powers in order to survive in the hostile environment. As a result, a new period in human history began, which is the titular Neon Age.
In Megamagic: Wizards of the Neon Age for PC, the player assumes the roles of two brothers - Phoban and Deimon. Thanks to a mysterious book and a wand, they managed to develop their magical skills. The siblings are accompanied by Fum - a creature of an unknown origin and Phoban's best friend. It turns out however, that Fum constitutes one of the basic ingredients required to create a powerful spell desired by almost everyone in this world. An entire series of amazing adventures begins once Fum's friend realizes that it is his duty to protect him against the massive number of enemies trying to obtain the power lying within the creature.
Mechanics
The game is played from an isometric view and the player traverses subsequent locations facing a variety of enemies. These include mainly different monsters, robots and zombies. During their journey, the players solve numerous puzzles and encounter a set of NPCs, as well as different factions with varying attitudes. Fighting hordes of enemies is the core of the gameplay. The combat is based on classic RTS mechanics. As the player progresses, the characters learn new spells and gain access to subsequent, useful abilities, such as the one allowing the player to summon a fallen enemy in order to get support in further combat.
Technical aspects
Megamagic: Wizards of the Neon Age for PC is visually a pastiche, featuring sympathetic, cartoonish visuals resembling animated series for teenagers mentioned earlier. The experience is accompanied by a fitting soundtrack created by an independent artist nicknamed Mitch Murder.
