Mech Armada is a turn-based strategy enriched with solutions unique for the roguelike genre. The game was developed by an independent studio Lioncode Games.
Plot
Mech Armada takes us on a journey to the universe where the Earth was attacked by Swarm - hordes of all kinds of monsters, which destroyed everything they encountered on their way. Those who managed to survive found refuge beneath the surface, where they tried to develop technology to reclaim the planet from the predators. In the end, the remnants of humanity managed to create an army of the mechs, which can tip the balance of victory in their favour.
Mechanics
In Mech Armada we observe the action from a top-down view. The pillars of gameplay are turn-based clashes with monsters, to which we send small mech units. We have to design each machine ourselves beforehand, choosing parts for transport and body elements, as well as choosing from many weapon variants. In total, over seventy components are at our disposal, each of which has its strengths and weaknesses.
The arenas, on which battles take place, are not very impressive in terms of size, but they are varied in terms of design (we eliminate opponents in ruined cities or desert wastelands, among other places) and terrain. On each of them we encounter numerous obstacles, although their presence can often be used to our advantage (for example as shields). In addition, nodes are located on the battlefields, which must be captured to provide the energy necessary to construct more mechs. As for the opponents we face - most often we face the usual " cannon fodder", but from time to time on our way there are also much more powerful bosses (such as a giant worm), who can spoil our units with much more blood.
As we progress, we gain numerous upgrades, which gradually increase the combat potential of our machines. It is worth remembering, however, that in case of defeat there is nothing left for us but to start the game from the beginning. In addition, both the maps and the monsters, resources and rewards waiting for us on them are procedurally generated, so each game looks different.
Technical aspects
Mech Armada boasts colourful and eye-pleasing graphics. The maps are clear, the mechs are detailed and the enemies are varied.
