Meadow

Meadow is an open world online game in which the player takes on the role of one of the nine available animals. The title is a spin-off of the Shelter series. In the game, it is possible to move freely on varied terrain, including hills, water reservoirs or dense bushes. Depending on the choice taken at the beginning of the game, we can cross the game area as a terrestrial animal, explore the depths of lakes as a fish or fly in the sky as a bird.

Mechanics

The devs describe a game as a "disguised forum" and it is the interaction between the players that is its main goal. It is not possible to communicate using written word or voice chat, only with the use of tags, emoticons, and simple sounds. It is possible to traverse the area alone, but the game encourages us to make friends and have fun together, for example by the need for animals to work together in order to unlock access to certain collectibles. The player can modify their charges with more than 60 skins, as well as new forms of expression, which enable for more accurate communication with other inhabitants of the forest.

Technical aspects

The game is characterized by a unique, simple and rustic style, similar to Shelter and Shelter 2. Most of the textures in Meadow consist of repetitive geometric shapes, which gives the visuals a somewhat simple look.

Additional information

Having one game from the Shelter series in our Steam account unlocks the ability to play the animal that was the protagonist of specific installment. And so, for the first installment it is a beetle, and for the second - a lynx. Having all the games in the series enables the player to play as the bear from Paws, and owners of all positions related to the Shelter franchise (apart from games there are also soundtracks and interactive books) can play as an eagle.
