An action-adventure game, featuring an isometric camera and elements taken from soulslikes and metroidvanias. Mark of the Deep is about exploring the legendary island, fighting enemies and trying to rescue the protagonist's lost crew. Over time we gain access to new powers, giving us access to new areas.
Mark of the Deep is an action-adventure game inspired by soulslike titles and enriched with elements taken from metroidvanias. It was developed by the independent studio Mad Mimic Interactive from Brazil, which has projects such as Dandy Ace in its portfolio.
Story
Mark of the Deep tells the story of a pirate crew whose ship crashed on an island previously known only from myths and legends. During the game, we play as Marcus Ramsey, also known as the "Rookie". The protagonist's task is to find the missing colleagues, uncover the grim secret of the indigenous inhabitants of this piece of land, and find a way to escape.
The situation is complicated by the fact that our companions have been affected by the curse of the depths. It depends on us whether we will try to help them by performing tasks for them, or whether we will only take care of ourselves. It's worth remembering that our choices affect the course of the story and its ending.
Gameplay
In Mark of the Deep the action is presented in an isometric view. While exploring the island, we mainly focus on eliminating hordes of enemies. The fights are dynamic, and during them we must be constantly moving and perform agile dodges as well as launch quick counterattacks.
On our path stand both cultists and the undead, as well as monsters from the abyss. Apart from regular enemies, we regularly have to face bosses who are much more powerful than them, looking for their weak points and gaps in their defense.
As we progress, we gather better weapons and unlock skills. This includes supernatural powers guaranteed to us by the titular "mark of the abyss". It's worth remembering that additional skills are useful both on the battlefield and during exploration, giving us access to previously undiscovered places.
