Mario Party DS is a representative of the party games genre. This means that we have to deal with a not too complicated dexterity, consisting of several dozen simple to use and not requiring special preparation of mini-games. As a result, this product can appeal to people of all ages. The Mario Party series was launched in 1998. In the following years the games from this series were released on Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, and finally Nintendo Wii. This product is the first title that was developed exclusively for owners of Nintendo DS. Hudson Soft, also known for its Bomberman series, is again responsible for the preparation of the game.
The latest edition of the Mario Party series was endowed with a rather symbolic storyline. This time a nice plumber with a group of friends was imprisoned in a castle. Behind all the intrigue stands the well-known game fans of Nintendo Bowser, the leader of the Koopa race. As you can easily guess, when we enter new challenges, we need to help controlled characters get out of the magic castle.
As in other Mario Party games, we participate in a variety of mini-games. They have several features in common. A simple tutorial has been added to each of the included games, so it only takes a few seconds to get to know the rules. A single game does not last long either. At one mini-game you only spend a few minutes on average and then have another game.
The list of attractions included in Mario Party DS includes interesting versions of popular sports, such as football or car racing. It is worth noting that you can return to the unblocked games at will, so as to improve your score, for example. The option of sorting mini-games is also provided for, as a selection criterion, e.g. determining the level of difficulty. In addition to the classic games in Mario Party DS there is also a mode called Puzzle Mode, offering selected mini-games from previous versions of this series.
One of the main attractions of this production is of course the full use of the possibilities offered by the Nintendo DS console. The included mini-games use a touch screen or a microphone. A maximum of four players can participate in the game. However, it is worth mentioning that only one copy of the game is required, as all the necessary data is automatically sent to the other participants. Visually, Mario Party DS does not differ from the style presented by his predecessors. Depending on the type of mini-game selected, the game takes place on one or two handheld screens. We visit three-dimensional locations, observing amusingly animated characters known from other Nintendo games.
