Maniac

Maniac is a game representing the action roguelike genre, and its gameplay is focused on spreading chaos and destruction in an open world. The game developed by the Polish studio Transhuman Design (King Arthur's Gold, BUTCHER) was inspired by the first two-dimensional installments of the Grand Theft Auto series.

Gameplay

In Maniac our main task is to bring total destruction to the streets of a colorful city. The creators have provided us with a range of characters with different traits, skills, equipment, and motivations.

We can guide the actions of Iggy the clown equipped with a baseball bat, sow fear with Bad Santa with a shotgun, or the inconspicuous girl Melissa striving for world domination. The characters differ in terms of endurance, speed, and also the ability to use weapons. We have the opportunity to purchase upgrades (like bulletproof vests) and to expand our arsenal.

The game is characterized by an open structure - eleven city districts can be traversed both on foot and using vehicles - motorcycles, civilian or military cars. Vehicles help spread chaos in the streets and serve as a means of escape from law enforcement when resistance becomes too burdensome. As the level of destruction increases, we attract the attention of more and more powerful units sent to fight crime. This gives us the opportunity to take over their equipment, including tanks.

Technical aspects

The work of Transhuman Design is characterized by colorful graphics maintained in the style of a comic, which contrasts with brutal gameplay. It is worth mentioning that thanks to the built-in map editor, in Maniac we can create new city districts ourselves.
