Magic Touch: Wizard for Hire
A humorous arcade game by indie studio Nitrome and a remake of the flash game of the same name. You play as a wizard, whose task is to defend a castle from airborne invaders; you lose the moment the first invader lands on the castle walls.
Magic Touch: Wizard for Hire, released on AND and iOS, is an arcade game in which we defend the castle against an army of flying invaders. The production was developed by Nitrome studio, the creators of Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage, Gunbrick and Platform Panic. The game is available in a free-to-play model with optional microtransactions.
Plot
Magic Touch: Wizard for Hire is a remake of an old flash game by Nitrome studio with the same title. We play the role of a wizard hired by the owner of a castle to defend the fortress against the invaders. The enemy tries to get to the walls in an unconventional way - from the air, using balloons.
Mechanics
We get rid of our opponents by drawing letters, symbols and shapes on the balloons to make them pop. Initially, the game isn't very difficult but after a dozen or so successful battles, the number of opponents and the difficulty level increase (stronger enemies can use several balloons).
The game ends when the first opponent puts their foot safely on the walls of the castle. Therefore, the essence of the game is to beat records. Special spells, which the player unlocks in exchange for coins acquired during the game (e.g. time slowdown, turning opponents into frogs, creating a wall of fire on the walls, or turning castle towers into turrets), help in this process.
Technical aspects
Magic Touch: Wizard for Hire offers nice, typical for Nitrome studio, 2D graphics.
