Maelstrom (2007) PC

Maelstrom takes place on the devastated future Earth of 2050 where an alien invasion has triggered an apocalyptic ecological disaster. In this savaged world water has become the most valuable of resources and divided the remaining humans into two factions. Now, they must wage war against the invaders and each other in a desperate struggle for supremacy and survival.

Advancing the innovative gameplay mechanics of Perimeter into a contemporary sci-fi game with action packed tactical gameplay and outstanding features, including upgradeable transforming units.

Depending on which of the three factions you choose to fight for, it’s all-out destructive war as you battle for control of the entire planet against fearless aliens, an army of high-tech super soldiers and a rag tag crew of human survivors. Each with unique identities and abilities, Maelstrom’s three factions are:

The Remnants

Led by ex-US military General James Buchanan , The Remnants are the underdogs in this bleak future. However, these cunning, low-tech resistance fighters are large in numbers and even more resourceful in their terrorist-like battle tactics.

The Ascension:

Ascension leader Arlan Khan commands respect from his supporters, all of them highly intelligent and logical, yet ruthless exploiters of future technology such as transforming robotics. But where the Ascension obtained such tech remains unknown...

The Aliens:

The alien invaders are desperate for a new planet to inhabit and draw resources from. Masters of Bio-engineering and a completely mobile faction, they range from huge beasts to large swarms of small creatures.

With an exciting mix of third-person action-packed missions set in totally destructible and stunningly realised environments, Maelstrom is the result of a unique collaboration between Codemasters, the award-winning Russian development team K-D vision, and US creative studio Massive Black, Inc.

From a concept by Codemasters, K-D vision will lead the development and game design of Maelstrom. KD-vision’s past credits include Perimeter, the innovative RTS, released to critical acclaim in 2004, when it received a PC Gamer Game of the Month award and also picked up “Best PC Game” and “Best Game Design” awards for K-D vision at KRI Russian Game Developers Conference. Completing the talent roster, Codemasters has engaged Massive Black Inc., a premier creative studio that works in film and games production, for character realisation.
