Lunacid is an RPG inspired by the King's Field series and the Shadow Tower game, a predecessor of the soulslike genre. This is also another title in the portfolio of Japanese horror creator Akuma Kira. This time, KIRA LLC studio prepared a dungeon crawler, wrapped in graphics reminiscent of the era of the first PlayStation.

Plot

Long ago, the Great Beast emerged from the sea and shrouded the land in poisonous fog - since then, the world of the game Lunacid has been devoid of light. The character we control is thrown into the Great Well for unknown crimes and the only salvation for them is a creature called the Ancient One, sleeping deep underground. The protagonist searches for that creature in an atmosphere of horror and desperation, traversing the darkness-shrouded underground, which were once bustling streets.

Gameplay

The gameplay involves exploring dungeons, finding secret areas, solving puzzles and conducting demanding fights with various monsters. In Lunacid we observe the world from the eyes of the character we created at the beginning and we can choose from nine available classes. It can influence the way of interacting with other characters and the environment. As befits an RPG, we advance to higher levels and allocate stat points, thereby developing the hero, as well as collecting items, including 75 types of weapons.

In addition to character stats, combat is also based on the player's dexterity. We can use dodges, step back and block attacks. Lunacid focuses on the system of "charging" blows, allowing us to perform a series of lighter hits or take one powerful swing. It is also important to aim at specific parts of enemies' bodies.

We visit filthy catacombs and stinking canals in an atmosphere of danger - there are many so-called jump scares and we can even encounter an enemy that cannot be defeated. He arrives if we stay too long in one location. At the same time, we are looking for secrets - the completion of the game depends on finding them.

Graphics

Visuals in Lunacid are stylized after three-dimensional productions from the 1990s. The creators allow using visual options such as a VHS-style filter, Vaporwave, or an effect that makes the game even more similar to titles from the first PlayStation.
