Lucid Description
Lucid is an adventure game developed by independent Norwegian studio Blackbook, made up of people known for such titles as Firewatch, The Longest Journey or Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. The game was created thanks to support from the Norwegian Film Institute, among others.
Plot
Lucid takes us on a journey to Masnes - a small fishing village located in the north of Norway. The main character of the game is a fifty-year-old accountant named Leif. The protagonist lives in his parents' house and leads a boring, lonely life. One summer night our protagonist wakes up and discovers that for the first time in many years he remembers his dreams. While walking, Leif gets the idea that his dreams and reality might be connected. With the help of an old friend, he decides to make contact with the Saami, the indigenous inhabitants of the land, whose spiritualistic knowledge may allow him to consciously manipulate his dreams. Who knows, maybe thanks to it he will also be able to start changing his life?
Mechanics
In Lucid we observe the events from various angles. The action of the game takes place both in Masnes village and in places which are creations of the main character's imagination, where his dreams are set. During the game we explore locations, talk to characters (in this way we can, for example, learn about the culture and tradition of the indigenous inhabitants of Masnes and its surroundings), and solve clever puzzles. The whole thing was designed to be accessible and attractive for both veterans of the genre and newcomers.
Technical aspects
Lucid has colourful graphics kept in cartoon style. Despite its simplicity, the developers have managed to convey the specificity of Norwegian villages, full of colourful, wooden buildings, and also present a variety of locations created by the protagonist's imagination (sometimes dark, and sometimes awe-inspiring due to their picturesque nature).
