Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a 2D arcade game with platforming elements. The game puts the players in control of one of the two operators of a small space station that has to constantly defend itself from enemy hordes. It was developed by the indie developer Astro Base. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is the debut project of this studio. In 2013, before its debut, the game has won many industry awards in numerous events and competitions.

We assume the role of an operator of a mobile, pink space station, somewhat resembling to the famous Death Star. The title is intended for two-player local co-op gameplay; the developers did not implement an option to play the game via standard Internet connection. Technically, there is a possibility of switching to the computer AI as our partner, but the creators do not recommend this solution. During the game, we travel through consecutive, randomly generated locations where we fight dozens of aggressive opponents and bosses. The players may move their characters through the station’s corridors, so they can access several computer consoles that let us control individual turrets, defense systems, and engines. The gameplay requires strict cooperation between both operators and correct coordination of all activities. Before starting a mission, we may choose the station’s equipment and the type of defense systems.

The 2D graphics of Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime are incredibly colorful and abstract. Enemy designs may sometimes border on surrealistic and can surprise with their creativity. During the gameplay, we are accompanied by a mix of original electronic music in the background.
