Loretta is an adventure game, made in the psychological thriller style. It is inspired by noir movies from the 1940s and 1950s, Alfred Hitchcock's masterpieces and the novel 1922 written by Stephen King, among others. Game was developed by indie developer Yakov Butuzoff and published by Dangen Entertainment.
Plot
Loretta takes place in 1947. The main character of the game is Lora Harris, who moved to a farm with her husband - a writer named Walter. Problems caused by the financial difficulties of the family, suspicions of infidelity on the part of her husband and finding out that although she sacrificed everything for her partner, she doesn't love him at all, push Lora to devise an evil plan. Walter has a life insurance policy, and in case of his death she would receive a compensation of $30,000. So Lora decides to kill her husband and get rid of the evidence, and the player, in a way, becomes her accomplice.
Game mechanics
Following the storyline of Loretta, we talk to characters, interact with objects and make numerous decisions. Our actions and choices shape the course of the story and influence its ending, while determining the fate of Lora and other characters. It's up to us whether we'll commit one crime and try at all costs to cover it up by covering our tracks and getting rid of evidence, or we'll throw ourselves into the vortex of bloody murders, trying to eliminate anyone who gets any suspicions towards the protagonist.
Technical aspects
Graphics in Loretta is made in pixel art technique. Some variety is provided by much more detailed, static boards, presenting characters and specific events in which they take part.
