Little Devil Inside

Little Devil Inside is an action adventure game with RPG and survival elements. It was developed by an independent studio Neostream Interactive, and it was possible thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

Plot

Little Devil Inside takes us on a journey to a steampunk world inspired by Victorian England. The main character of the game is Billy, who travels this land in search of phenomena and supernatural beings. As his job is not the safest one, Billy is not only a researcher, but also a battle-hardened warrior, able to cope in all conditions.

Mechanics

In Little Devil Inside we can explore a vast world. We can find here both picturesque forests and snowy mountain peaks, as well as sandy desert or gloomy swamps. Travelling around the world was realised in an interesting way. It was divided into smaller locations, between which we move, watching its miniature representation from a top-down view. Once we arrive at a location, the camera changes position to show the action from TPP view. Although walking takes the most time, it allows you to get to places that would otherwise be inaccessible. However, if you want to get from point A to point B a bit faster, you can use a train, a car or a ship. What's interesting, there is no fast travel, and the use of all means of locomotion takes place in real time. In addition, moving between locations, from time to time we take part in random events, such as meeting with a flock of sheep or conversations with natives.

During the game we complete various tasks. For each of them we have to prepare properly, learning all the details and providing ourselves with appropriate equipment. Although many of them "on paper" look easy, things don't always go our way, so we have to use the sword or the gun, which are at the disposal of the hero, very often. The enemies include both small, fantasy creatures inhabiting the land (admittedly, alone they don't cause a big threat, but most often they attack in groups), and the creatures we study (which are much more challenging). During dynamic battles we have to show dexterity and reflexes to block enemy attacks with a shield or perform lightning-fast dodges, as well as launch quick counterattacks.

Adversaries are not the only threat we have to face during our travels. Hunger and thirst can also bring on us doom, so in order to prevent this, we must always have a supply of water and regularly cook something by the fire (such as self caught fish). Difficult weather conditions, with thunderstorms and snowstorms at the forefront, are also a danger.

Between subsequent missions we return to the town which serves as our base. Here we accept further orders, conduct conversations and gather information on the places we will visit next, as well as acquire the necessary equipment.

Technical aspects

Graphics of Little Devil Inside is designed in an original style. While some elements were created in a pleasant to the eye, minimalistic low poly technique (such as models of characters and opponents), others are full of detail and look realistic (including the vegetation growing on the locations). The game features a soundtrack inspired by music from the Victorian era.
