Limbus Company

Limbus Company is an RPG with strategy elements created by the independent South Korean studio ProjectMoon. The developers decided to release the game in a free-to-play format.

Plot

Limbus Company is set in the dystopian universe known from ProjectMoon's two previous games - Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina. We play as an executive director leading the group of twelve Sinners. Our goal is to find the Golden Boughs hidden in Lobotomy Corporation's underground facilities.

Mechanics

In terms of gameplay, Limbus Company heavily resembles Darkest Dungeon by Red Hook Studios. The game is an RPG, though it also features some strategic elements. Battles are turn-based. The player only sees the results of their actions once the AI-controlled opponent selects their move as well. Units from both sides them follow the given orders, consequently facing each other directly.

Though our characters' strength and skills matter a lot, so does luck (due to the game's randomness). This can be mitigated by chaining skills of the same color, increasing damage dealt. Thoughtfully building our party is also quite important - each of the twelve Sinners differs from the others, and so does their performance in specific situations.

All these mechanics are especially important when facing Abnormalities - powerful bosses with unique proficiencies and abilities inflicting various special effects. The player should do their best to equip their units with correct weapons - here known as E.G.O. - weapons that fit their character. This creates powerful synergy which give an edge during combat, along with knowledge of our enemies' strengths and weaknesses.

Technical aspects

Limbus Company is singleplayer only. Thanks to its cross-save function it's possible to start the game on a mobile device and continue it on the PC (or the other way around).

The game's main questline is fully voiced in Korean. Side quests don't feature voice acting, just subtitles - the available languages are English, Japanese and Korean.
