Letters: A Written Adventure is a platform and adventure game enriched with elements taken from word games. It was developed by an independent Swiss studio 5am Games.

Plot

The main character of Letters: A Written Adventure is Sarah, a shy girl from Switzerland, whom we accompany at different stages of life - from childhood, through teenage years, to early adulthood. By modifying the letters she writes (we start the game in the late nineties) and the conversations we have through online chats, as well as by filling in various forms, we shape the protagonist's personality and decide who she will become in the future. However, if the chosen direction does not ultimately appeal to us, nothing stands in the way of trying again, this time making completely different choices.

Game mechanics

Letters: A Written Adventure features side-scrolling gameplay. Like in a platform game, we control Sarah, who travels through... Well, instead of exploring the classic stages, the girl moves through the letters she wrote or even through the computer screen with a chat window displayed. Our task is to fill various gaps in the texts with words of our choice, literally pushing them into the right places. Sometimes we have to "create" the right words by breaking other complex words into smaller components.

In this way, we get rid of obstacles blocking our way and push the action forward. We must also remember that the words we use affect the heroine's appearance and personality, as well as the relationships she establishes with other characters, and as a result - determines how her further fate will turn out.
