Landmark for PC is a spin-off created during the works on an MMORPG - EverQuest Next. Landmark is an online sandbox game focusing mainly on building and discovering the virtual world.
Mechanics
The game was inspired by the core mechanics of Minecraft, and the similarities are very apparent. The players receive an extensive universe which can be freely re-shaped and remodeled. The gameplay consists largely of exploration and constructing different buildings from the materials the player has gathered.
In Landmark for PC, the player begins with the creation of their character, which can be transferred to EverQuest Next. As the player progresses, they gradually receive new, better tools which allow to construct even more incredible buildings. The creations the player has built can be linked together with a special network of teleports - this facilitates travelling and shortens the amount of time required to relocate. Obviously, the creators implemented a system of achievements to the game as well, so the players can compare their scores to others' from the entire globe.
The main idea behind the game is to make a good use of the players' own concepts and their creativity. The creators promised they would transfer all the most interesting player-made buildings from the world of Landmark to EverQuest Next. Moreover, the most talented virtual architects have an opportunity to sell the self-designed in-game goods and properties via Player's Studio - real money is the currency here.
Landmark for PC offers great visuals of a fantasy world. The animations, character models and environments were all created with great care for details. The game utilizes the ForgeLight engine, created by the Daybreak team themselves. This allows for objects in both games (Landmark and EverQuest Next) to look exactly the same.
Landmark is full of typical MMO elements. The player has access to the friendlist, the guild panel, both the voice and text communication and tools allowing to record the entire processes of constructing particular buildings.
