A video game adaptation of the wacky parody of the 80s action movies, funded on Kickstarter. Kung Fury: Street Rage is a beat 'em up game, based on the classic productions of the genre. It was developed by Swedish studio Hello There, creators of simple advert games. You play as a policeman wielding superhuman kung-fu powers, fighting the Nazi armies led by Kung Führer.

Kung Fury: Street Rage for PC, PS4 and etc. is a retro-stylized beat 'em up game, based on the classic arcade games of the genre. It was based on the short film Kung Fury, a parody of the 1980s action movies. The game was developed by Swedish studio Hello There, specializing mostly in simple advergames.

Plot

Kung Fury: Street Rage maintains the movie's absurd vibe. The protagonist is a policeman, who was bitten by a cobra and struck by lightning, which changed him into a kung-fu master. His body has mutated, giving him superhuman powers. His task is to fight a villain known as Kung Führer and his army of Nazis, who obviously want to take over the world, as Nazis do.

Mechanics

The game features classic beat 'em up mechanics, utilizing a heavily simplified combat system (similar to that of One Finger Death Punch). You use only two buttons, that of the left attack and that of the right attack. However, simply mashing the buttons absentmindedly is not enough to win. While the first few locations were designed for a typical warm-up run, the difficulty level rises quite quickly, and in the following stages the opponents literally flood the screen.

Technical aspects

The simple mechanics of Kung Fury: Street Rage for PC, PS4 and etc. are complemented by oldschool 2D visuals, resembling those of classic 16 bit computer and arcade games. The game also features an unusual perspective, as you see everything on a slightly broken screen, similar to that of an old arcade game.
