Kromaia is a 3D shooter with elements of a simulator and an adventure game, set in in a science fiction universe. PS4 and PC versions were released in 2010 by Kraken Empire studio.
Plot
Unlike most similar productions, Kromaia offers a quite extensive story campaign. We play the role of a lonely soul that wakes up in a strange temple inside an unspecified mechanical unit. Without remembering what happened, we have to travel through this original universe filled with various strange devices and dangerous creatures. While searching for answers, the soul is accompanied by a familiar-sounding voice that seems to know it better than itself.
Mechanics
The gameplay mechanics combine elements of classic shooter, simulator and adventure game. We move between several stylistically diverse worlds, which are a combination of history and technology and something like digital copies of real, probably long lost universes. We travel using several miniature ships (or special suits), which differ in terms of their type of weaponry and special abilities. The gameplay is rather dynamic, and our main goal is to eliminate opponents and a bit more demanding mega-bosses. However, we can also interact with various objects and numerous puzzles.
Game modes
The original version of the game is for one player only, and there are several game modes to choose from, such as Story Mode or Score Attack. However, we can compete with other players through special online rankings. The improved PlayStation 4 version called Kromaia Omega adds a new Pure Mode and the possibility of local cooperation for two players, where one player controls the ship, while the other focuses on the weapons.
Technical aspects
Kromaia is characterized by a rather original and somewhat abstract 3D graphic design, dominated by futuristic objects and various geometric figures of varying shapes. The game allows full freedom of movement in all directions (so-called 6-Degrees-of-Freedom). The game also has a refined Artificial Intelligence and the option to choose from four difficulty levels.
