Knightfall: A Daring Journey Description
Knightfall: A Daring Journey is a funny FPP multiplayer game made for April Fools' Day. It was developed by indie studio Landfall Games, which has brought the world Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and Clustertruck.
The title was initially made available for free, but only for one hour in time for April Fool's Day 2022.
Game mechanics
Knightfall: A Daring Journey is a battle royale, but very different from the typical representatives of the genre like PUBG or Fortnite. Up to 24 knights divided into pairs compete in a race to the castle in order to get the rose hidden in it. Players eliminate their rivals with shotguns, muskets, other firearms and grenades until only one team remains.
This typical scheme has been heavily modified here. First of all, we spend a large part of the game on horseback, navigating narrow and winding roads in search of the aforementioned castle and towns. Secondly, these towns are important here, because Knightfall uses the cycle of day and night, and the last ones are very cold in the game world - even deadly. Therefore, it is necessary to find shelter in the town before nightfall.
However, as you get closer to your destination, the number of such shelters decreases. What's more, the pair that reaches the city first can choose a weapon or heal themselves to prepare for battle with their rivals. This makes it so that sooner or later players have to concentrate in one place, be it the city or the castle that is the destination.
We can shoot at encountered players as we go, but as the game then switches to a TPP (behind the character's back) view, hitting rivals from the saddle is quite a challenge. Instead, it's better to focus on getting to your destination as quickly as possible. This requires you to stay on the track, because - just like in racing games - the horse slows down drastically when it gets outside of it. Fortunately, the mounts in Knightfall have mastered... the art of drifting, and a successful slide makes the horse accelerate for a short time (like a go-kart in Mario Kart).
Game modes
Knightfall: A Daring Journey is, of course, a production focused on competition with other players. We can fight with a friend or a randomly selected player.
Technical aspects
Landfall is known for productions with equally frivolous gameplay and graphics. Knightfall is no exception. The 3D graphics is very simplified, though not as much as in Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. The game makes good use of lighting, and the nights, while appropriately dark, are bright enough not to make navigating the area difficult.
There is a chat feature in the game, with messages appearing as clouds above the character.
