In the Kingdom of the Sun lies the sacred Mask of the Eternity. The symbol of truth and order is guarded by a magical race called Archons. Over the years, the mask provided peace and prosperity to the kingdom of Daventry, but Lucretto, the leader of the mystical guard, misappropriated his brethren and cast a bad spell on the object, first broke and then scattered his remains all over the land. The result was lamentable. All inhabitants, including the lovingly reigning King Graham, turned into a stone. But is it for sure?
Mask of Eternity is the eighth and, so far, the last installment of the cult series of adventures from the King's Quest. The main character of the game is Connor Ly Mann, who as the only inhabitant of Daventry does not succumb to the destructive influence of the mask. As you can easily guess, it is him who will be responsible for reversing the spell and restoring order to the land. Compared to the previous parts of the game, Mask of Eternity has changed everything. For the first time in the history of the series, the classic two-dimensional way of presenting the action was abandoned and full 3D application was applied. The game became fast, dynamic and, what's worse, it gained a lot of arcade elements, because Connor could collect weapons scattered here and there, and then use them in the fight against the monsters he met. Solving the puzzles typical of adventure games has not been eliminated, but it cannot be denied that the game has definitely gone into the background, and the game itself began to resemble the Quest for Glory series in terms of construction. From the graphic point of view, the program looks pretty good, especially the realistic and perfectly reproduced movements of the main character can arouse admiration. Sound, as usual in Sierra, at a high level.
The problem with this game is that apart from some of the elements contained in the storyline, it is difficult to attach it to the other representatives of the series. The transition to a full three-dimensional and sudden increase in dexterity didn't work out for good, as Robert Williams' fans quickly convinced her, criticizing her for shaggling holiness. If Mask of Eternity did not use the name King's Quest, it would be a good product. In this case, however, it is difficult to express a positive opinion on it.
