The first game in the legendary adventure games series, King’s Quest. It was initially released for PCs and Apple II, while the later re-edition supported such machines as Atari ST, Amiga and Sega Master System.

The game is set in a mysterious fantasy world full of magic and various monsters lurking in the shadows. As Sir Graham, a seemingly ordinary peasant, we have to regain three ancient artifacts that once belonged to king Edward: a magic mirror, a chest with unlimited gold and an enchanted shield that can be destroyed with no weapon. During our journey, we will reach the kingdom of halflings and meet the dangerous witch of Hansel & Gretel, among other things. We fight both common bandits as well as deadly beasts, dragons and giants included.

We control the protagonist with cursor keys, although we have to manually type in commands like “open”, “use” and the like. The gameplay involves solving puzzles such as “what should I use to open that gate” or “what to combine to get the desired artifact”.

Due to the time when the game was created, the graphics consist of only 16 colors. Despite that, the locations are neatly done and please the eye. Apart from grassy and sunny plains, we will also go down to deep dungeons and try to complete our mission therein.
