Plot
The campaign takes place in a small American town of Watford, Arizona. The local cult, while trying to make contact with the afterworld, accidentally awakes the ancient divinity of evil - Baphomet. In order to remain in the world of mortals, this being must marry a human woman before sunrise. Players assume the role of a young man named John, who is a neighbour of Ophelia. To save the girl, he will have to break through hordes of undead and other monsters, defeat five demonic generals protecting Baphomet, and finally face the divinity himself before he finishes his wedding ritual.
Mechanics
As befits an action RPG, Kingdom of Night focuses on the arcade combat system. During the game, players also explore the world and perform different tasks.
Upon starting the game, the player can choose between nine classes with unique abilities, specializations, and development trees. The game offers a great variety in this respect and the choices made during the creation of the character and all the subsequent upgrades have a strong impact on the course of the game.
The whole town is a small open world and players decide in what order they want to defeat the five demonic generals. The game rewards accurate exploration, allowing players to obtain additional items and information useful in fighting the forces of evil.
Technical aspects
Kingdom of Night offers two-dimensional visuals with the action shown from the top-down perspective. The visual layer of the game resembles productions from 16-bit consoles and computers.
