King of Thieves is a mobile arcade game that blends elements of platformers and tower defense games. The game was developed by the creators of Pudding Monsters and Cut the Ropes series but, unlike these games, King of Thieves is aimed at mid-core gamers and focuses on online multiplayer. We play as the titular king of thieves who breaks into dungeons designed by other players.

King of Thieves is a hybrid of a platformer and a tower defense game which focuses on onlinecompetition. The game is aimed at players with a slightly more hardcore profile (so-called midcore), in contrast to other, much more casual games by Moscow studio ZeptoLab. These Russian developers have provided us with the successful Pudding Monsters and the best-selling series of arcade logic games, Cut the Rope (Cut the Rope, Cut the Rope: Experiments and Cut the Rope: Time Travel, Cut the Rope 2). The game is offered in a free-to-play model with optional microtransactions.

Mechanics

In King of Thieves we play as the titular King of Thieves. We break into and explore dungeons full of obstacles and traps designed by other players. The goal of the game is to gain all the treasures hidden there, which - due to the many dangers - is not the easiest task and is associated with frequent failures.

The game takes place in asynchronous network mode, reminiscent of what mobile strategies like Clash of Clans offer in terms of technical solutions. Players visit dungeons that they have constructed, hoping to earn an easy income. The player whose dungeon is being raided tries to improve the trap system so that it is able to stop others from taking their valuables.
