Mechanics

KeeperRL makes use of the top-down perspective. We'll spend most of our time underground, drilling tunnels and rooms, employing creatures willing to work, enslaving less willing ones, training soldiers, producing weapons and armor. That's not all, as to prevail over the surface we must research new technologies, dabble in alchemy, learn new spells and experiment on living creatures.

Eventually, heroic adventurers will delve into our dungeon, forcing us to send our troops against them and place traps everywhere. After gathering enough soldiers we can release them to the surfaceto raze and pillage villages and other dungeons, facing witches and powerful dragons.

Combat is turn-based, requiring tactical sense and good use of our units' strengths. On the battlefield we can attack, defend and debuff enemies with statuses, such as blinding and poison.

Advanced systems ensure the game's world functions properly. Our units use items we equip them with, forest fires spread uncontrollably and can even reach our dungeon. All of our troops have individual traits which affect their behavior and potential; in extreme cases they can even get us into big trouble.

Game modes

KeeperRL only supports singleplayer. Players can, however, share their dungeons with the community and traverse them while playing as an adventurer.
