Kapital: Sparks of Revolution is a city builder with clearly outlined elements of socio-economic simulation. The game was developed by the Lapovich Team studio and was published by 1C Entertainment.

Plot

Kapital: Sparks of Revolution takes us on a journey to a fictional 20th century city, which is rising from the rubble after a long and devastating war. During the game we play the role of a manager of this growing metropolis and our task is to restore its former glory. It's not easy though, because we have to deal not only with the lack of resources, but also with growing class tensions.

Mechanics

In Kapital: Sparks of Revolution we observe the action from a top-down view. At first glance, the game does not differ too much from other city builders. During the game we build various structures - from houses, through public buildings to industrial structures - and we lay roads, extract resources and produce various goods, as well as trade surplus goods with other cities. However, a city is nothing without its population, and we must take good care of them.

The inhabitants represent three classes; while the nobles are the families of the educated rich, the bourgeoisie are the businessmen who owe their wealth mostly to hard work, and the workers are the simple poor. Since resources are never in abundance here, we often have to decide which class gets access to certain goods first; we're even talking about satisfying their basic needs, like food or shelter. Conflicts are inevitable, and dissatisfied citizens begin to take to the streets, protesting, rioting, and even burning everything in their path. We can then try to restore order peacefully (by introducing new laws and regulations) or on the contrary (by bringing the military into the streets).
