Jak and Daxter Video Game Series
A series of action platform games, considered the "spiritual heir" to the Crash Bandicoot series. The brand was created by Naughty Dog studio with publishing support from Sony Computer Entertainment.
The idea behind the series Jak and Daxter was born while working on the game Crash Team Racing. The intention of developers from the Naughty Dog studio was to create a platformer that would go beyond the usual schemes through an open world structure and extensive levels for exploration. Sony Computer Entertainment saw this as an opportunity to showcase the technical capabilities of the PlayStation 2 console.Ultimately, the game Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy arrived on store shelves in 2001. The production was very well received, which resulted in high sales (more than 1 million copies in a year after the release). It did not take long to develop the series. Like II i Yak 3 were released in 2003 and 2004, respectively. The Naughty Dog team said goodbye to the series with the spin-off Yak X: Combat Racing (2005). Ready at Dawn and High Impact Games studios took over the developmental reins. The result was the games Daxter (2006) and Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier (2009).
The plot of the games in the series Jak and Daxter takes place on a distant, unnamed planet. The main characters - the green-haired Jak and his best friend Daxter (accidentally transformed into a cross between an otter and a weasel) try to discover the secrets of their world and solve the riddles left by the mysterious Forerunners.
The game takes place in an open world. The player explores sizable locations looking for Precursor Orbs. In overcoming obstacles and fighting opponents, the characters' abilities, such as double jumps, powerful attacks and the ability to use Eco, a powerful substance, turn out to be helpful.
From the very beginning of the games in the series Jak and Daxter were created with a view to using the maximum capabilities of the target hardware platforms. As a result, they are distinguished by high-quality, three-dimensional visuals generated on the basis of the Kinetica engine. On the other hand, such composers as Mark Mothersbaugh, Josh Mancell and Larry Hopkins are responsible for the musical layer.
