Jack in the Dark is a short but fun adventure game, published for free by Infogrames for Christmas in 1994. The main character of the game is an eight-year-old girl, Grace Saunders, who, dressed up as a witch, goes from house to house and collects sweets in Halloween. It accidentally ends up in a haunted toy shop that has been taken over by evil spirits. Trapped inside, she must find a way to get out of it, neutralizing the title Jack. Similarly to Alone in the Dark 2, we observe the action from several cameras imposed by the programmers. Grace can collect items and use them as she sees fit, just like any other program in the series. The longest games should not be played, it is enough to collect things lying in different nooks and crannies of the store and use them accordingly. The whole can be completed in several minutes.

Jack in the Dark has a nice, three-dimensional graphics of the character, prepared with great attention to background details and well selected sound effects (especially the sounds of steps on the wooden floor awaken respect). More interestingly, it is possible to save the game status, as well as other features known from the Alone in the Dark series, such as changing the level of detail.
