An expansion pack for Hearts of Iron II - a strategy game created by Paradox Interactive. Contrary to the core game, Iron Cross was developed by Irshappa. The player assumes control of a country of their choice and leads their people to victory in the Second World War. The game offers a great deal of freedom when it comes to influencing the course of the war and managing the politics, economy, trade and technological development of one's country.

Iron Cross: A Hearts of Iron Game for PC is an expansion pack for Hearts of Iron II; it was created by Irshappa and published by Paradox Interactive. Hearts of Iron II (2005) was a strategy game allowing the player to lead one of 130 countries available through the period of the World War II. What made the game stand out, was that the player not only was in control of military actions, but also had to take economic, social or political factors into account when making their moves. In case of the Iron Cross expansion, the gameplay formula remains unchanged, but the number of countries one can choose from was increased to 200.

Mechanics

According to the creators, one of the largest novelties introduced in the expansion is a completely re-built map enriched with over 4000 new provinces. Also, the historical period encompassed by the game was lengthened – Iron Cross presents historical events that took place in the years 1933-1964. As a result, the game was extended with over 6000 new events.

Iron Cross: A Hearts of Iron Game for PC expands other elements of Hearts of Iron II as well. The player has new units and brigades at their disposal, among which one can find special forces, infantry regiments or heavy artillery. Moreover, the technology tree was also modified – a new, realistic development system was implemented here along with over 800 technologies to choose from. Gameplay as such became deeper, because of the improvements introduced into the in-game AI. On top of that, the creators added missions from the base game to Iron Cross – importantly, the new features function in case of those as well.
