A first person-shooter, inspired by the renown Half-Life series. The story of Invariant takes place in Antarctica and we end up in a research facility taken over by damaged AI and its machines. We also need to watch out for crazy workers and strange creatures. In addition to combat, the game features exploration and puzzle solving.
Invariant is an FPS clearly inspired by the Half-Life series. The development of this project was handled by the independent studio Faros Interactive, founded by developers who have the Serious Sam series or the Skywind mod (transferring the game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim engine) in their portfolio.
Story
The action of Invariant takes place in Antarctica. We play as a scientist who arrives at the Nabla station. The research is being conducted here involving a source of energy hidden under the ice. It is the last hope for the world. Upon the protagonist's arrival at the facility, the artificial intelligence managing the place breaks down. To make matters worse, strange creatures begin to emerge from under the ice, and the facility's employees start to go mad.
Gameplay
In Invariant we view the event from the first person perspective (FPP). The adventure leads us through the corridors and rooms of the Nabla station, the tunnels stretching beneath it, as well as its ice-bound surroundings (we can explore some of them using a snowmobile).
We often have to reach for our weapon in the game. We encounter machines under the control of a damaged AI, aggressive creatures, and deranged facility workers. We eliminate enemies using firearms (such as shotguns and pistols), but also with things like a gas burner.
In order to regain control over the facility and uncover its secrets, we also have to solve logical and environmental puzzles, trying to outsmart the systems controlling it.
