Inua: A Story in Ice and Time is a narrative game focusing on the fates of three different people living in completely different time periods, as well as on Inuit beliefs and a true story about a tragic expedition. All this is presented with game mechanics typical for point and click adventure games. It was developed by The Pixel Hunt, IKO and Arte France, including the authors of the experimental Vignettes and Bury Me, my Love.
Plot
Once upon a time there lived a magnificent polar bear named Nanarluk, who became the object of the sick ambition of three people determined to hunt her down - just to prove themselves superior. Killing the bear, however, upset the balance of nature. Now, as the soul of Nanarluk, we must restore the natural course of the world. In order to do so, we influence the fate of three human characters living in the periods separating them by over 100 years - Peter, Simon and Taina.
In addition to references to Inuit mythology we can find here fragments referring to actual events, such as the famous Franklin's expedition from the 19th century, which ended tragically for all its members. In the game by collecting various clues and evidence we also try to reconstruct and understand the cause of this tragedy.
Mechanics
Inua: A Story in Ice and Time is first and foremost a point and click adventure game, in which apart from solving various puzzles we have the opportunity to influence the events of the past and observe how they reflect on the present. The game is divided into stages. Each of them focuses on one location, but shown in different time periods.
Technical aspects
Inua: A Story in Ice and Time is a 3D game with a unique soundtrack. It is worth noting that while creating the game, the developers were inspired by Inuit beliefs and in order to be as faithful to them as possible, they cooperated with artists and authors originating from this culture.
