InSomnia: The Ark

InSomnia for PC is a role-playing game and the first production by Russian indie studio MONO. The game's world is a blend of science fiction and dieselpunk.

Plot

The game is set on a huge space station, the shelter of a humanoid race called the Nomans. Several centuries before, they had to leave their home planet, ruined by the war between the Noma Republic ans the SORG Regime, and started to search for a new world to begin their lives anew. The game's story begins 400 years after those events. The station is now partially deserted, and most of its inhabitants are in hibernation.

Mechanics

The players take on the roles of the station's inhabitants, who have awakened from hibernation. Their task is to explore the abandoned parts of the station and complete various quests (main and side ones), mostly consisting of fighting AI-controlled enemies. The combat takes place in real time, so its outcome depends on choosing the right tactic and properly utilizing your abilities. Your character's performance is also affected by many external factors, such as hunger, exposure, fatigue, sustained injuries, low oxygen, etc. Eliminating the negative effects requires the right equipment. When you die, you lose all your items and your character also suffers an additional penalty. Moreover, each death can (but doesn't have to be) permanent, which means you have to start all over.

Technical aspects

The 3D visuals of InSomnia are very detailed. The game's style resembles such role-playing games as Wasteland 2 or the first two Fallout games. The setting and soundtrack help build a grim, mysterious atmosphere of the production.
