Infinitum: Battle for Europe for WWW is a browser MMO grand strategy set an alternative version of modern Europe. The game was developed by Allodium, a Czech studio specializing in online games – Battle for Europe is the continuation of their debut project called Infinitum, which was released as a browser-only title in 2011.
Plot
The players are given an enormous, geographically accurate, continent of Europe which consists of over 15000 cities. The plot describes a grim vision of the modern world in which a total war has decimated the continent, leaving chaos and omnipresent violence in its wake. A military-industrial syndicate called Global Security Agency is leading the post-war Europe. The Orwellian institution enforces its policies through violent means, such as oppressing its citizens, as well as resorting to weapons of mass destruction. Players take part in the conflict as the representatives of free cities, rebuilding their infrastructure and taking part in the ongoing conflict by creating alliances and engaging in military operations.
Mechanics
Our goal is to rebuild the ravaged cities, gather resources, build military power, and take part in the conflict to reclaim territories and gain influence. The game mixes the city-building elements with gameplay seen in grand strategy games, introducing an interesting mix of elements similar to that found in cult-classic titles such as The Settlers, Civilization, or Dune II. The players are left with over 40 buildings of different purpose that can be developed to suit their current goal. Depending on our preferences, the cities can fill one of three roles: diplomatic, industrial, or military.
Technical Aspects
Similarly to most major MMO titles, success is attained by cooperation and coordinated actions between the players. We can create alliances and support the community by creating trade networks, exchanging troops, or sending military support. Aside from extensive multiplayer functionalities, there also are numerous singleplayer quests that offer PvE gameplay. Battle for Europe offers pleasant visuals that resemble various real time strategy games from both the 20th and the 21th centuries.
